Getting started with Arduino UNO R4 Minima
To use the Arduino UNO R4 Minima board, you will need to install the UNO R4 Minima board package, which is part of the Arduino Core for Renesas devices.
To install it, you will need a version of the Arduino IDE, which you can download from the Arduino software page.
If you already have the Arduino IDE installed, it is recommended to use the latest version available.
Once installed or updated, open the IDE and connect the card with a USB Type C cable and follow the steps below:
1. Once the card is connected to the PC, wait for the driver to load.
2. Open “Device Manager”.
3. Check the COM port assigned to the card, which will appear as “USB Serial Device (COM…).”
4. Next, go to the Arduino IDE and head to the “Tools” tab. Click on “Boards” and select “Board Manager.”
5. In the board manager, search for the “Arduino UNO R4 Boards” boards and install them.
6. Make sure to select the Arduino UNO R4 Minima board and the corresponding COM port in the “Tools” section.
7. Done! Now you can use your card and start programming.
Can I use code developed for the UNO R3 on the UNO R4?
Yes, the code was developed using the Arduino API . In case instructions available only for AVR architecture were used, some changes must be made to ensure compatibility.
Are all libraries compatible with the UNO R3 also compatible with the UNO R4?
No, some UNO R3 libraries use instructions for the AVR architecture, which is not compatible with the UNO R4 architecture, however there are libraries that have already been adapted for the UNO R4.
